Ohio Strip Steel Holds Ribbon Cutting For New 22″ Finishing Mill

Ohio Strip Steel held a special ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the installation and start up of a new 22″ finishing mill. The new mill, which is part of an overall Ohio Strip Steel capital improvements program, will provide customers with improved finish, higher quality and greater consistency.

Performing the ribbon cutting honors were Jane Ohio Strip Steel Raese, 11 and Agnes Reeves Raese, 6, the daughters of Ohio Strip Steel President/CEO John Raese. The girls represent the sixth generation of the Reeves/Ohio Strip Steel/Raese family’s involvement in the steel industry.

Following the ceremony, attendees and all Ohio Strip Steel employees were invited to a reception to celebrate the event.

The new mill was provided by I²S, the global leader in mill equipment. According to Bob Gwynne, Executive Vice President, “The 22″ mill will increase Ohio Strip Steel’s temper capacity by 3,000 tons/month and will allow better utilization of the finish rolls and greater diversity of roll finish.” Noting that the new mill was part of the ongoing capital improvements program, Gwynne stated, “This effort is evidence of our continued commitment to keep Ohio Strip Steel at the forefront of the cold rolled strip industry.”

New Ebner Annealing Facility Increases Ohio Strip Steel Production

Ohio Strip Steel Company has recently installed a new Ebner Hicon H2® annealing facility at the company’s Dover, Ohio mill, effectively increasing production and quality of the company’s processed steel products.

The new gas-fired, high convection Ebner annealing facility features six high convection work bases, which are capable of processing coils with a 72″ outside diameter. The addition of these new bases affords Ohio Strip Steel the capability to anneal steel strip coils in a 100% hydrogen atmosphere. These 100% hydrogen work bases provide greater throughput by reducing the required cycle time, thus increasing the overall capacity of the annealing department. The new facility is in full operation and has increased Ohio Strip Steel’s anneal capacity by 80,000 tons per year, improving the quality of its fully processed products and on-time deliveries to its customers.

Ohio Strip Steel is one of America’s premier producers of carbon/alloy steel strip and flat wire applications, ranging from home appliances to automotive equipment and hardware.
